What Are Gamers?

Gamers

Gamers are those who play computer gamers, computer role-playing games (like World of Warcraft or Eve Online), handheld video game systems, card games like Solitaire, and board games like Chess. Some players are quite competitive, with the desire to win, and they often play for hours on end. They’ll sit down at the computer for hours at a time, hitting the key buttons to maneuver their ships and fighting other players. Other players enjoy strategic, or problem-solving board games. And there are those who just play for pure entertainment.

To understand the differences between a casual gamer and a hardcore gamer, it helps to understand what the difference is between “casual” and “hardcore.” A casual gamer is someone who generally plays games on a normal, everyday basis, without any serious gaming experience or goal. A hardcore gamer, by contrast, plays games in an effort to become better at them, usually to compete against others. While there are some players who play only for fun and have no such aspirations, most hardcore gamers do. Therefore, when you hear someone talk about” hardcore gamers,” what they really mean is “competitive gamers.”

There are two types of gamers: casual gamers and hardcore players. The casual gamer might spend hours playing World of Warcraft, yet have no intention of becoming a World of Warcraft expert. A hardcore gamer, by contrast, will spend hours playing a strategy game, such as the Fall of Rome, Civilization, or Alpha Protocol, yet have no intention of playing any more strategy games. These gamers will not only play various games regularly but will also spend hours researching strategies and techniques. The difference between a casual and hardcore gamer is that the casual gamer will play games frequently, while the hardcore gamer will only play occasionally or at a much lower frequency.

So, which is the proper term to use? Well, to simplify things, I would tend to use the term “casual gamer” and “hardcore gamer” interchangeably. The difference between these two types of gamers is the frequency with which they play video games. The casual gamer may only play video games a few times a week, whereas the hardcore gamer will play video games on a regular basis. This is one reason why many people incorrectly call themselves “gamers,” even though they have no intention of being so. Their main article is “casual gaming.”

The point I am trying to make is that there is a difference between the types of players out there. For the sake of clarity, the term “hardcore gamer” should probably be retired, because it generally describes a very limited type of person. There are, however, several different sub-genres of hardcore gaming, including Role-playing, Simulation, Real-Time Strategy, massively multiplayer online role-playing, Horde/Arian Warcraft role-play, and so on. If you want to get more specific, there are several different types of computer game consoles (including X-Box, Play Station, Sony PlayStation, and Nintendo Wii) that fall into the gaming category, as well.

Typically, most hardcore gamers, including those involved in World of Warcraft, are considered to be gamers who enjoy playing interactive computer games that require strategy and hand-eye coordination. Although you will find that most of them enjoy playing first-person shooters, they are not, by any means, required to do so. In fact, it is rare to find any hardcore gamer who is actively engaged in a combat-style video game. Most role-playing and real-time strategy games involve creating characters, then interacting with the environment to achieve some sort of objective or outcome.

One other important distinction is between players who belong to online communities versus those who belong to professional gamers guilds. Professional players (unlike myself) frequently participate in forums, discuss topics, offer advice and encourage other members to take up similar interests and hobbies. Many people may view these activities as being “cheating” or a form of dishonesty, but I personally view it as a way for us to bond and create great friendships within our community. As a matter of fact, I oftentimes go out of my way to meet and chat with new friends that I would never have the chance to meet otherwise!

The above paragraph is an attempt to define what a gamer really is. In the main article, we looked at what constitutes a gamer, how gamers can be grouped into factions, and what distinguishes gamers from regular consumers. We also looked at the differences between gamers and those who engage in the actual act of playing video games. Now that you’ve finished reading this article, hopefully, you’ll be better equipped to start talking to the opposite sex, find out about dating and find out what the gaming community is best for you!
